Powershell: Stopping and starting services

Using BITS as something that is always there, remember to run in Admin mode:

Start the service:

(Get-Service -Name BITS).Start()

Wait for it, ie block until available:

(Get-Service -Name BITS).WaitForStatus([System.ServiceProcess.ServiceControllerStatus]::Running)

Stop the service:

(Get-Service -Name BITS).Stop()

Wait for it, ie block until stopped:

(Get-Service -Name BITS).WaitForStatus([System.ServiceProcess.ServiceControllerStatus]::Stopped)
